Chainsaw Carving Contest in Soldotna, Kenai Peninsula

Blue Columbine

And a big "Howdy" from the head moose.

A hole is being drilled to enable a very long screw to hold a fish in place. The carver has 3 fish to place yet.I really liked this carving.

The eagle was extremely intricate in every detail. I was amazed by what a good chain saw artist can accomplish and how delicately they are able to carve in such detail.

There are a lot of fish cut out here, but I don't see anything else and I don't think only big fish will win the contest.

The black and red colors are being burned into the wood by using a blow torch.

Even girls get into the cutting act!

When the carving is done the artists come to this building to stain or paint or polish for the final results before the judging which was the next day and we were already on our way back to Anchorage.

We were so into watching the carvings being created guess I fell short on pictures to share, but you get the idea.
