#7 Denali Huskies-Working Freight Haulers

Within Denali Park are dog kennels. These dogs are different from the racing dogs we tend to think of in Alaska. These dogs have been breed to be hauling/working dogs. Their legs are longer and their bodies stouter to enable them to better haul through deeper snow then the typical mushing/racing dog.

Each dog has his own house and space. They are chained far enough apart that their is no touching interaction between the dogs.

The Park Rangers and dog handlers give free dog mushing demonstrations three times every day. You need to take a courtesy bus to get to the kennels.

The handler is getting the dogs ready for a little run around the area for the audience. The ones not chosen put up a fuss for awhile, then become quite again. All in all, the dogs have been taught to be ruly and quite.

Ok we are all leased up and ready to go. Who is going to be the leader today, one seems to be saying to the other.

The ranger had to run down the track in an attempt to shoo away a raven. Yea, right! Shoo away a raven? It went into the air and when she turned her back on him he landed right back on the track again. Guess the raven could cause a little havic with the pups if they decided the raven might be more fun to chase.

These two are just pupies born in the kennels recently. They will eventually be trained as work dogs too.
