Denali Highway

Because we want to travel as many of the highways we are able to get in during our time in Alaska, we traversed approximately 30 miles of the Denali Highway. We traveled the portion
which begins
from Denali NP, heading toward Paxson.

The Denali Highway is unpaved for 113 miles, and before Paxson there are 21 miles of gravel.

Before the Parks Highway was built between Palmer, (north of Anchorage) and Fairbanks, the Denali Highway was the only access road for Denali National Park.

Denali Highway crosses in and out of BLM (Bureau of Land Management) property and private property. Most belongs to the BLM. A couple of established campground can be found; otherwise simply camp off the road in at a scenic pullover or beside a river where the road can accommodate a camper. Wouldn't advise taking any big RV's over the road.

Yep, long, long dirt roads.

However, Alaska is one of those places that no matter which road you choose to travel down, you are sure to be surprised and awed by the beauty that continues to surround you. We have not found a road we didn't like the views from yet.

Creambush/Mountainspray is my best guess for this flower.

The water overflowing from the lake to the left is only a small sign of all the rain that has been falling in Alaska this year.
