Kenai National Parks Fjords Cruise to Harding Icefields

We have been on cruises to see the glaciers. This time we went on a 9 hour cruise to see the Kenai Fjords National Park. Follow the blue line to see where we went.

Sit back and enjoy the view and the cruise.

Looking at the "bowl" in this mountain I can imagine it might have been a volcano or glacier at one time. Picture Rock below.

We cruised through pristine beauty, tide water glaciers, whales, sea lions, otters and puffins. We were able to purchase a lunch which was Alaska salmon and prime rib. It was delicious and we were very hungry after 5 hours walking around the boat and trying to get the good picture.

We are looking at a humpback whale and he is showing us a little bit of fin and tail.

The triple picture windows we were told are the most photographed in the Park and have appeared in National Geographic. Well, now you can see them too.

The fjords are rugged islands of which make up
the Kenai Fjords National Park and the Alaska
Maritime National Wildlife Refuge.

We are cruising up Holgate Arm to see how close we can get to Holgate Glacier. Look at the very small boat in the background and you can get
an idea of how large the glacier is.

The first sighting of Ocra Whales for us. These are not the same dive, but I did manage to get the whale coming up and the tail as he dives deep into the water.

There are so many pretty waterfalls in the fjords.

Just look at the size of the Holgate Glacier face and that very little boat.

These two waterfalls are right at the Holgate Glacier.

We waited and waited for a piece of the glacier to fall off. We heard cracking and booms but only the small dusting above came down.

There are 2 large glacial faces to the right,
separated by the large dark rock in the middle. At one time these were together as one glacier. Just imagine all the changes through time in this area.

This is a very dirty glacier.

It looks like there are some Common Murres in front of the glacial cave.

Eagles abound in Alaska. They do make a pretty setting here.

Seagull Island or at least Seagull Rock.

Horned Puffin

And this silly puffin is trying to fly and having a hard time getting

This would be a good cover for pirates to
hide in (above). Maybe they did.

A Common Murre rockery

Oh those playful sea lions

See, puffins really can fly but not far above the water.
