Anchorage Museum Rasmuson Center
The Anchorage Rasmuson Center Museum is a Wonderful Museum. The upstairs is completely dedicated to the last 10,000 years of Alaska Native Cultures, Aleut, Eskimo and Indian as well as displays about the Russians, New England whalers, the gold rush, WWII, Statehood and Alaska today. We visited this Center and the Native Heritage Center in the same day. I would NOT advise it. I was unaware this glorious history was upstairs and I spent a couple hours walking through the downstairs rooms of Alaskan created artwork such as you will see below and "modern art".
When I got upstairs and discovered how great it was, I was much too tired and my feet ached too much to really have a look. Perhaps when we go to Anchorage again. The cost was a mere $8.00
Joe Redington, Sr, as you see above was the "father of the Iditrod Races, which he began in 1948. This is a picture of he and his wife. Today Joe Jr. continues the tradition of racing, but not in his fathers footsteps. A lot has changed in the way of dogs, stops, length and speed.
Perhaps there will be more another time re: this Museum and I can see the 300 photographs, more than 1,000 artifacts, 33 maps and specially made ship and aircraft models.
But, at least you know what is happening with us.
