Hatcher Pass leads to Independence Mine-Palmer

Hidden within the Mat-Su Valley is Hatcher Pass, elevation 3,886 in the middle of alpine country. The road is narrow, bumpy, dirt and gravel, turning into a modern paved road complete with scenic turnouts. Above you'll see part of the road we traveled. The area is popular for wildlife sightings, hiking, biking, paragliding, packpacking and gold panning.
