Sikanni River to #115 Creek Old Provincial Campground

And so begin another day on the Alaska Highway
and continue our drive through the Sikanni River area, eventually reaching the Muskwa River.

The Muskwa River is the lowest point on the Alaska Highway at an elevation of 1,000 feet
above sea level.
Up ahead (top right) we see the beginning of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Just a sampling of what is up ahead.

Trembling Aspens Stands

Prior to reaching Steamboat Mountain (left) we spotted our first bear. He was routing around
in a ditch on Don's side. No time to stop for a
picture. There will be more, I am sure.

Above is one of the few spots along the Highway
that we see limestone. Much of the highway has
been reconstructed, making the road straighter. The 1942 crew did not have to deal with the stone.

Indian Head Mountain from a distance (above)
and as we get closer we see the "classic Indian profile". Hope you see it to.

First glimpses of the snow capped Canadian Rockies.

The Testa River gives way to the
views of the high bare peaks of the central Canadian Rockies. Well, bear as far as devoid of
greenery or trees, but not snow.

Tall Bluebells found on the edges of the woods.

We often see views of diverse
green trees standing together. The beauty of early spring
really stands out in multiple greens.

Rocky Crest Lake (left) where the road follows a rocky limestone gorge (right below).

Our home for the night along side the Old Provincial
Campground #115 Creek.

Bunchberry; sometimes called
Dwarf Dogwood.

The name of this creek #115 was named during the construction of the Alaska Highway for its distance from Fort Nelson, north of here.

In the foreground (right) is a huge beaver dam; the the background is another beaver dam. Looks like both have been left unattended.
